Title Church Field, Otford: Report on test pitting, July 2013, Evaluation report
Author/Originator
Date/Year 2013

Abstract/Summary

The document presents a brief report on 5 test pits excavated in 2013 ahead of remedial work on the site of Church Field, Otford. The test pits were dug on the site of a potential Roman winged corridor building, identified from a resistivity survey conducted in 2012. The document summarises the findings from each of the test pits, which revealed strong evidence to support the hypothesis. Ceramic building material and pottery sherds were recovered from all of the test pits, though in greater quantities from the three pits overlaying potential walls of the building. Further investigation is suggested, in order to establish the full extent of the Roman building, as if this assumption is correct, it would be one of the largest Roman buildings in the Darenth Valley.
