Abstract/Summary
The report details the results of an archaeological watching brief at Plot 1, the Old Coalyard.
Taken from the report: "Summary: In March 1999 the Canterbury Archaeological Trust was commissioned to carry out an archaeological watching brief to a specification prepared by Kent County Council Heritage Conservation Group, during groundworks for a dwelling at 1 Abbots Court Road, off Vicarage Lane, Hoo St Werburgh on the Isle of Grain.
The entire site area appeared to be affected by a large, irregularly based disturbance which had removed most o fthe natural brickearth down to the underlying river gravels. This probably represents clay quarrying which took place in the medieval or post-medieval period."
