The report details the Archaeological Evlauation that took place between 30th November 2015 and 1st December 2015 on land at the rear of Pilgrim's Way Cottage, Otford. Taken from the report: "Summary: An evaluation of land at Pilgrim’s Way Cottage, Pilgrim’s Way West, Otford (centred on NGR 552159 159156) was undertaken by the Canterbury Archaeological Trust between 30 November and 1 December 2015. The proposed development, for a new dwelling, associated infrastructure works and landscaping lies within an area of known archaeological potential, largely associated with the Romano-British period. The archaeological evaluation has demonstrated that the underlying geology of the site is largely formed by deposits of river gravel, with these deposits sealed by colluvial layers. In trench 3 the colluvial layers were cut by two features, a pit and a ditch, of probable early Roman (perhaps second century) date. Activity of a similar date has been encountered elsewhere in the near vicinity, with these remains forming part of a wider settlement. Subsequently activity across the site was demonstrated to be minimal, as represented by the build-up of agricultural soils. A single large feature in the north of the development suggested that at least part of the PDA may have been quarried away. The location of the two Roman features in trench 3, and their shallow depth suggests that they are liable to be negatively impacted by the new development."
