Abstract/Summary

Frome the report: "Aims To locate any anomalies which may indicate the presence of burials within the study area. The work forms part of a wider assessment by the National Trust ahead of redeveloping the car park. Summary of Results It has not been possible to positively identify burials within the car parks at Sissinghurst Castle. Whilst the data sets are dense with reflections, the majority of them are a result of the near-surface variation in materials forming the car park and what are thought to be drains. Whilst broad areas of disturbance, as well as some discrete reflectors, have been highlighted as potentially resulting from inhumations, they could very well be a combination of natural responses and more recent anthropogenic activity. The fact that the whole area was once planted as an orchard may well account for some of the recorded responses."
