2K/01710 NORTH ENTRANCE This photographic job has yet to be fully catalogued. AF00100 Dover Western Heights, the Entrances to the Fortress Between April and November 1998, the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England (RCHME) carried out survey and analysis of the buildings, underground structures and earthworks associated with the entrances into the 19th-century fortress onthe Western Heights in Dover.The survey formed part of the Western Heights Project, which was undertaken at the request of Kent County Council as part of an Interreg II programme relating to historic fortifications in Kent, Nord-Pas de Calais and West Flanders. The programme wasco-ordinated for several partners in Kent by Kent County Council, and funding for the Western Heights was shared between the RCHME and the European Union. The field investigations were the responsibility of staff of the RCHME field office in Cambridge,now part of English Heritage. MP/WST0090 Plan showing accommodation at Western Heights near the North Entrance, derived from an Ordnance Survey map, which has been annotated by a draftsman from the Royal Engineers Some minor alterations have been added on waxed linen that has been taped on. The map was printed in 1883 and the annotations were made in 1893.
