| Date/Year | 1997 |
Abstract/Summary
The evaluation revealed evidence of deposits (associated with a building - probably domestic) dating to the mid-late medieval period. Three structural features were found: a mortar-rendered clay wall, an edge-set brick hearth/fireplace, and an associated warming shelf or utensil support. This has been interpreted as part of the kitchen range at the rear of a house fronting onto Strand Street. To the north, part of the town wall - showing two building phases, and probable postern gate due to its relation to the Guestling channel - was found.
