Description

1. 944 DANE JOHN Nos 16 to 18 (consec) No 19 (Penn House) TR 1457 SE 8/225 Nos 20 to 23 (consec) 3.5.67. II GV 2. Originally called Donjon Grove and dated 1822. 2 ranges, joined at ground floor level only. 3 storeys stuccoed, Slate roof. Stone parapet with moulded cornice. Some fluted and some plain pilasters. Rusticated bases. Fine cast iron balconies. Round-headed doorcases with 8 panelled doors. No 18 has been gothicized and given a castellated parapet, imitation miniature octagonal turrets and some pointed windows. No 23 is a larger house and has a 3 light canted bay running through all storeys. The ground floor of No 18 is joined to No 19 and has a door having a cornice above with alternate triglyphs and paterae. Municipal Buildings, Nos 12, 12A & Nos 14 to 23 (consec) form a group.
