2. Mid C.16 building, the sole remaining building of the Dane John Manor estate. (The other buildings were all pulled down in 1859 to make way for the railway.) Probably built by John Brown Halles who acquired the estate in about 1540. 2 storeys rendered, but underneath of C.16 red brick with Caenstone dressings. Tiled roof; west end has a crow-stepped gable end. Irregular, mainly C,19 generation and C.16 or earlier arched doorcase in Caenstone. On the south west side, 2 C.19 square brick oasts with pyramidal tiled roofs have been added. The interior of the C.16 part retains many original oak floor beams and joists and a C.16 roof of the side purlin type with windbraces and queenposts.
