Description

TR 05 SE GODMERSHAM CANTERBURY ROAD 4/28 Godmersham Bridge 27.11.57 II Bridge. C17 and C19. Inscription over centre arch dated 1698. Rubble, with brick parapet and approaching walls, with C19 red brick extension and causeway to east. Originally of 3 chamfered arches, with 2 battered piers on north side. Extended in red brick after 1810, to form one other arch over river, and 6 smaller arches for causeway. 4 pointed cut waters on south side, 2 brick, 2 stone. Inscription: 'Built by the Parish and NOT by the Country. Thomas Caster and Richard Austen SURWEIGHERS.' Listing NGR: TR0665250705
