Description

EYTHORNE UPPER EYETHORNE TR 24 NE Baptist Chapel 4/41 II Chapel. Dated 1804. Rendered red brick, exposed on return elevations, with plain tiled roof. Plinth with pediment shaped parapet to hipped roof. Two tiers of 2 semi-circular headed glazing bar sashes, with central blank space inscribed: BAPTIST. C20 red brick porch with boarded door and CHURCH 1804 rectangular fanlight. Two tiers of 4 semi-circular headed glazing bar sashes on each return elevation. Interior: Panelled pulpits and apsidal shaped gallery survive. The church built to serve probably the oldest Baptist community in the Country, referred to at the martyrdom of Joan Bourchier, 1550.
