Description

1. 5275 CATTLE MARKET (West Side) St Johns Hospital Almshouses [Nos 1 to 6 (consec)] TR 3258 1/230 II GV 2. These almshouses are set back from the roadway to one side and behind the Sandwich United Reformed Church. They comprise a row of 6 houses dated 1805. Founded in 1287 but rebuilt at the rear in the C17 and refaced at the front. Yellow brick, tiled roof, red brick modillion eaves cornice, yellow rubbed brick arches over windows, ditto segmental arches over doors. All glazing bars complete. Modern 2 panel doors with upper panel glazed. Nos 14 to 22 (even) and St Johns Hospital Almshouses, United Reformed Church together with Nos 2 to 12 (even) Moat Sole form a group.
