KINGSGATE BAY ROAD 1. 5283 KINGSGATE 'Little Holland House' 24.1.50. 'Holland House' 'Holland End' TR 37 SE 6/35 II
2. The 1st Lord Holland, Henry Fox, built a house on this site circa 1760. This fell Into ruins at the end of the C18 and the facade of the present buildings date largely from about 1850-1840. The central portico to the original Holland House was removed to the Sea Bathing Hospital at Margate. The central portion (Holland House) is of 3 storeys and basement with area stuccoed. Centre portion and 2 wings. The centre has long and short quoins, a stringcourse above 1st floor, modillion cornice and balustraded parapet, Venetian shutters to 1st and 2nd floor windows - architraves over 1st floor windows, a porch with triglyph frieze, round-headed arch and double doors and on iron balcony on the 1st floor with projections over porch. The wings are plain except for a stringcourse above the 1st floor. Slate roof. Glazing bars intact in the whole house. In front of the house is a stuccoed wall with balustrade bordering the area and flanked at the ends by figures of couchant lions on plinths. Little Holland House is the left side wing to the Old Holland House. 2 storeys stuccoed. Slate roof in 2 hips. Left side modern casement. 8 sided modern bay. Simple round-headed doorcase. 4 engaged columns with entablature and round-headed arches. Holland End was formerly the right side wing to the Old Holland House. 2 storeys stuccoed. Hipped slate roof. 5 sashes with glazing bars Intact. Porch with 4 engaged Tuscan columns and round-headed doorcase.
