OTFORD OTFORD 1. 5280 High Street (South Side) Broughton Manor TQ 5259 21/783 10.9.54. II* 2. C16 house with additions and alterations C17, C18 and modern. Timber framed structure. Entrance front of 2 storeys and attic, 2 windows, with hipped tiled roof,diapered C18 brick wall and stone foundation. Modern leaded casements and gabled porch. Other elevations show exposed framing with plaster filling; and a C17 gable end with ornamental bargeboards, added to the C16 building which has jettying and a dragon beam. Large projecting chimney of brick and stone at West end. Big inglenook inside. Much stout timber visible inside but also a good deal of restoration, particularly in an open hall part with gallery. Historic Associations. Broughton Manor was the property of the Crown at the time of Henry VIII and was used to house part of the retinue at the Archbishops Palace. Listing NGR: TQ5228559270
