Description

HEADCORN TONG LANE TQ 84 NW (South side) 5/101 26.4.68 Great Tong GV II Farmhouse. C16 or earlier, with later additions and alterations. Mid-to-late C19 facade. Timber framed. Ground floor chequered red and grey brick in Flemish bond, banded plain and fishscale tiles to first floor. Plain tile roof. 2 storeys. Roof hipped with gablets. Slender projecting stack to left end. 2 rear stacks towards centre and brick ridge stack towards right end. Irregular fenestration of 8 sashes; six 6-pane and two 2-pane (5 grouped towards centre). 2 canted bays to ground floor with ogee leaded roofs, and three 6-pane sashes. Central half-glazed and panelled door with flat bracketed hood. Rear lean-to to left. Rear wing towards right, with multiple brick ridge stack. Interior not inspected, but said to contain smoke bay.
