Listed Building: THE PEST HOUSE IN THE GARDEN OF SCADBURY MANOR TO SOUTH WEST OF THE HOUSE (1099203)

1. 5274 SOUTHFLEET NEW BARN ROAD (east side) The Pest House in the garden of Scadbury Manor to south-west of the house TQ 67 SW 5/43 1.6.67 II GV 2. C16. At the south-west corner of the west rectangle of the garden walls to Scadbury Manor is a small building which was a Pest House for travellers along Watling Street making the pilgrimage to Canterbury. This is older than the house and is a timber-framed building now faced with red brick and flints. Two storeys. Hipped tiled roof. Sprocket eaves cornice. The interior has a blocked in mullioned window. Documents of the 1570s showed travellers who died in the Pest House. In the C19 a drying floor was inserted and 2 stock brick circular hop kilns added which at a later stage had crenellated parapets added. Listing NGR: TQ6206471278
