Summary
The area west of Chattenden and Lodge Hill camps was used in both World Wars for practice and experimental military trench works. A series of trenches west of the Four Elms roundabout date from the first World War based on 1923 photographs as studied in 2009-2012 during the English Heritage Hoo Landscape project.
