Full Description

Three Neolithic pits were uncovered during excavations at Springhead , all three were located within area 2 of the excavations along the eastern edge of the site on a plateau at c. 28.8m aOD, The first pit contained 29 sherds of Early Neolithic pottery (4000 – 3000 BC), in association large quantities of hazelnut fragments. The two other pits contained less diagnostic pottery, possibly of a similar date. Further evidence of Neolithic activity in this area comes from a residual sherd of Early Neolithic pottery was recovered from a later ditch. (1)
