Full Description
Two features were identified as having a possible later Iron Age date during excavations carried out by Wessex Archaeology at Springhead. In addition to this fragments of Iron Age pottery were retrieved from a number of heavily truncated and undated ditches. A total of 128, including 79 sherds probably from a single vessel (fine oxidised beaker), were found unstratified across the site. They included sherds in grog-tempered, flint-tempered and shelly wares, from bead rimmed and cordoned vessel forms, are characteristic of the local Iron Age ceramic traditions, all of which continued in use into the early Roman period.
