Monument record TR 34 NW 339 - Late Bronze Age to Early Iron Age settlement, Dover

Summary

Test pitting in advance of housing development in November and December 2015 uncovered small quantities of LBA-MIA pottery along with the remains of hearths containing fire cracked flint. It was interpreted as representing a small prehistoric settlement.

Full Description

In advance of the redevelopment of land at Whitfield in Dover, 43 30m x 2m trenches were dug on the site. The finds were not numerous but stretched from the prehistoric to post-medieval period including a number of MBA/LIA worked flints. An associated hearth or pit also produced a number of friecracked flint. (From report)
