Between July 1999 and September 2001 a period of archaeological excavations were carried out by Hertfordshire Archaeological Trust on land in Herne Bay High School funded by the governors. There were two sites under supervision, the temporary access road and the larger, main site on the all weather pitch. The archaeological finds suggested a late Iron Age to Early Roman Landscape. These finds included a significant quantity of flint and pottery, as well as fragments of tile, brick, daub, burnt clay and animal bone. A total of 95 features were excavated throughout the course of the investigations. Of these 52 (55%) were linear features, the remainder being predominantly pits with a small number of postholes. No evidence of domestic structures were identified and the majority of the evidence indicates features relating to field boundaries and associated pits (1).
