Full Description

A single layer of mixed clay and chalk containing occasional 18th-19th century bricks and brick fragments. The dump layer could be upcast from the moat or spoil derived form building work within the interior of the citadel. There seems little doubt that this layer represents a dump of material derived from excavtions elsewhere and its purpose seems to have been to level up the ground across this part of the site. (1)
