Full Description
A deposit of of mixed chalk, clay and nineteenth-century brick rubble was uncovered within a large negative feature located immediately to the south of the former Officers Quarters at The Citadel, Western Heights, Dover during a watching brief carried out there in 2012. From the narrow excavation it was impossible to determine whether this material represented the filling of an earlier service trench or more general levelling material lying within the original terrace cut for the construction of the adjacent Officers Quarters. The brick rubble noted, however, had more the appearance of being demolition rubble than waste derived from new building work. (1)
