Full Description
Summarised from report:
Between 1860 and 1870 the accommodation for the Warrant Officer and his family (alongside a variety of other structures) was constructed on the rising ground to the south of the casemated barracks at the South Front Barracks. It was built probably in compliance with recommendations contained in a report of 1861 by the Royal Commission on the Condition of Barracks and Hospitals. A site plan dating to 1897 (1) shows a detached house to the north east of the Married Quarters. It was named No2 in 1897 but re designated No1 by 1903 following the construction of quarters for two more warrant officers on Citadel Road, to the north, shortly before 1900. This structure was a bungalow with a central through passage incorporating a lobby. Three bedrooms were located on the south west side of the passage, with a scullery, kitchen and living room on the other side. A yard with a WC, ash tub and coal store adjoined on the north eastern side. (2)
