Summary

Between 1860 and 1870 a laundry building was constructed (alongside a variety of other structures) on the rising ground to the south of the casemated barracks at the South Front Barracks. A site plan dating to 1897 shows that it was a simple rectangular building sub-divided into a wash house, a laundry and a small drying room, with a drying ground outside to the north west.
