Full Description
During an archaeological excavation undertaken by Canterbury Archaeological Trust in the St James area of Dover a later Medieval garderobe shaft was uncovered, associated with a medieval cellar/undercroft situated between the former site of St. James’s Street and Clarence Street. the shaft had been incorporated into its north corner and this undercroft and appeared to have been infilled during the sixteenth century. In addition to pottery, its filling yielded a Dutch coin dated to 1590–1598 and a significant number of cat skulls. (1)
