Monument record TR 15 NE 1784 - Early Medieval/Medieval deposits, pits and road surface, Staplegate

Summary

From 2012-2015 a series of excavations at Staplegate, Canterbury revealed medieval deposits consisting of pottery, daub, and food waste that built up in the earlier half of the medieval period. This layer was replaced by a series of pits and post holes dating to 1325-1450 which were in turn superceded by a thick metalled surface and a wall. A series of metalled surfaces were also discovered that probably represent the development of medieval King Street.
