Full Description
Famous in history as the liner that had carried the murderer Dr Crippen and his mistress to the United States, the MONTROSE was selected as a block ship by the Ministry of Transport and purchased for this purpose on 28.10.1914. In 1914 she was prepared by being filled with cement and made ready for scuttling as a block ship at Dover, but was blown out of the harbour by a gale and stranded on the Goodwin Sands, where she broke in two.
