Vertical Datum: LAT Quality of Depth: SWS The MONTROSE was an ex-Canadian Pacific Passenger ship, purchased by Ministry of War Transport for use as a blockship. Foundered on Goodwins after breaking away from moorings and drifting out of Dover harbour 1914. 30-JUN-1959 Small piece of wreckage shows about 2ft above sand in 51 14 58.0N, 001 34 20.0E. 25-NOV-1980 Examined. Small piece of wreckage, estimated to dry 0.9m and to be about 1m long. Not conspicuous. 19-JUN-1986 Examined in 51 14 55.0N, 001 34 20.0E. Wreck extends over a large area and lies approx N/S. Dries 1.2m in general depths 3 to 5m. Scour depth 9.4m. 22-JUN-1991 Large wreck examined in 51 14 55.9N, 001 34 12.0E. Dries 1.1m, foul at 0.9m. Least echosounder depth 2.6 in general depth 3.5m. Scour depth 8.4m. Lies 020/200 degrees within its scour and little shows above seabed level. S part of wreck thought to lie on top of part of wreck 012304244 (RYNANNA in 51 14 52.0N, 001 34 22.0E).
