Monument record TR 03 NW 127 - Early-medieval inverted oak trunk, Cheeseman's Green, Ashford

Summary

A single large hollow piece of waterlogged oak tree trunk (17813) was recovered from pit/posthole 17814 (Area 4N). It had been placed upsidedown in the pit, and radiocarbon dates indicate it was done in the early Anglo-Saxon period (AD 430-630). "This enigmatic deposit is of unknown function; it is possible that it marked a significant place in the landscape".
