Full Description
A total of thirteen prehistoric struck flints was recovered, five from the topsoil and eight from the subsoil. Five of the pieces are secondary flakes, whilst the other eight are tertiary flakes. Two of the flakes show some evidence of deliberate working.
In addition to the struck flint material, there are three calcined flints (probably used in prehistoric
cooking).
The topsoil and subsoil layers also yielded a combined total of fourteen pot-sherds. Three pieces came from the topsoil and eleven from the subsoil. Two flint-tempered sherds must be prehistoric, most probably of Iron Age date. One fragment is Roman Samian ware, and three others are probably Roman. Two shell-tempered sherds might be Anglo-Saxon, and six sandy ware fragments appear to be medieval.
The only feature on the site was an undated gully of limited extent. (1)
