Full Description
In 2010, a programme excavation of test pits and boreholes revealed a greater depth of deposits with archaeological potential than expected based on excavation of previous test pits. This is because a probable quarry or quarries of medieval date covered most of the site. Part of the quarry near the corner with Roper Road was filled with probable kiln waste, although this need not have originated on the site. The presence of glazed peg-tile and broadly eleventh-/twelfth-century pottery in context 1059 (WS1) suggests a medieval date for the earliest of the quarry fills. (1)
