Monument record TR 23 NW 781 - Late post-medieval structural remains and possible earlier jetty, 11 Tontine Street, Folkestone

Summary

The course of the River Pent, former river bank and an undated clay spur metalled with pebbles and ragstone (a possible tidal jetty) were found, followed by domestic refuse dumps containing frequent oyster and mussel shells and cess. Significant topographical modification then occurred in the late post-medieval period, and the brick-built drain and well were installed to support the ongoing use of No. 11 Tontine Street.
