Full Description
One of the buildings on the south eastern side of the inner bailey of Dover Castle, Keep Yard 8, is constructed over a an apparently Medieval Cellar or possibly a cistern. This is approached via a set of external stairs, the top of which is located next to the north eastern corner of Keep Yard 8, beneath a timber flap. (1) A simple plan produced by Canterbury Archaeological trust after works undertaken within the inner bailey in 1990 shows the approximate location of the cistern beneath Keep Yard 8. This gives a date of 1247/8 for the cellar/cistern. (2)
