Full Description
Forms part of a terrace of 9 houses of an early to mid C19 date and double depth plan, in a stock brick with a rendered and painted (white) basement. This render at the basement level is scored to give the illusion of large block construction and there is a modern light attached to is near the basement level window. The ground floor is raised above the street level and the door, which is located on the northern side of the façade, is accessed via a set of concrete steps. This door has a moulded stucco architrave with cornices on console brackets, there is some slight staining and weathering to this plaster detail on the door surround. There are a set of possibly original iron railings on both sides of the steps, as well as around a small area in front of the basement area, separating it from the street level. A further door is located beneath the steps up to the ground floor door, providing separate access to the basement level. There is a single window at the ground floor level, located just off centre on the southern side of the door, the window at the basement level aligns with this. There is a string course at the top of the ground floor which forms a continuous sill to the two first floor windows. These first floor windows have original wrought-iron balconies. All windows have flat gauged brick window arches above (the brickwork surrounding the basement level window is rendered so this arch was not seen). The ground floor, basement level and second floor windows have small protruding sills. A modern plastic gutter down pipe is located on the southern side of the façade, between this building and its southern neighbour (No. 7). This runs from the top of the second floor down to the basement level. A brick parapet with cement coping is situated over the second floor. The brickwork on this building is not continuous with that of its northern neighbour (No. 3) suggesting that they were possibly built at slightly different times. Some wiring is attached untidily to the façade at various locations; this is associated with a security system and a large aerial and satellite dish at the roof level. The rear elevation is in stock brick, with five (visible) windows and a small contemporary ground floor and basement level extension over the northern side of it. A number of modern gutter and waste water down pipes cross this rear elevation. Overall the building appears to be structurally sound and in a good condition.
There are six windows and a door located on the main (eastern) façade, all of which are original. The ground floor door which is located on the northern side of the façade is in timber painted black. It has four vertical panels, the upper two of which are glazed. There is a small rectangular overlight above the transom over the door, it appears to be fixed and the frame of this is in timber painted black. There is a further door beneath the steps up to the ground floor door, providing separate access to the basement level, this is in timber painted white also with glazed upper panels. There is a single window at the ground floor and basement levels, located just off centre and on the southern side of the door. Both are timber framed sashes divided into multiple panes by timber glazing bars, 16 on the ground floor window (four wide by four high) and 12 at the basement level (four wide by three high) there are two windows at both the first and second floor levels, aligning across the floors. Again these are all original timber framed sashes divided into multiple panes by timber glazing bars. All are slightly narrower than the windows below, but at the first floor level they are taller. The first floor windows are 16 panes (three wide by five high) and the second floor windows are 9 panes (three wide by three high). A small flat roofed dormer is located at the roof level, this was not clearly seen but appears to have a timber frame and is a likely later addition. The timber surrounds and frames of all the windows are painted white and all are in a good condition with all panes in tact and present. There are five (visible) windows on the rear elevation; three are on the southern side of the façade and align with each other, all are timber framed sashes divided into multiple panes by timber glazing bars. The ground floor is 16 panes, first floor 12 panes and second floor nine panes. There is a further narrower (six panes two wide by three high) window located at the first floor level on the northern side and a final within the small extension (four panes two wide by two high). The basement level windows were not seen. All windows are in a good condition.
The eastern side of the roof was not clearly visible from the street level as it is located behind a brick parapet. It is in welsh slate roof with gabled ends over each of the party walls. There are brick stacks over both party walls. A large aerial and satellite dish is attached to the northern stack and a with a further aerial attached to the dormer window. The western (rear) side of the roof is in a good condition with no bowing or obvious slipped/missing slates. The roof of the extension to the rear of the property is a shed roof in slate this also appears to be in a good condition. (1)
