Monument record TR 34 SW 2506 - North eastern section of the outer curtain wall, Dover Castle
Summary
The eastern defences of Dover Castle, facing a higher area of chalk downland, form an important aspect of the castle’s defences and are largely medieval in origin, although greatly altered in the 18th and 19th centuries. The curtain wall between Norfolk Tower and Fitzwilliam gate was constructed in the 1220s as part of a programme to reinforce the northern defences after the 1216 siege.
