Summary

The gunpowder magazine was constructed in c.1800 close to the 13th century Rokesley’s tower and Cannons Gate on the south western side of Dover Castle. The Magazine is constructed of London stock bricks withThe southern side of the magazine covered by a large earthen bank in order to protect the explosives from potential gunfire from warships, it was originally designed to contain 320 barrels of explosives.
