The Royal Garrison Artillery Barracks, also known as Stone Hut 1, which is located just inside the western curtain wall of the Castle, just to the north of Cannons Gate, was constructed in 1912 to house the gunners of the Royal Garrison Artillery which had been established as a group in 1899 with the specific purpose of manning coast batteries.(location accurate to the nearest 1m based on available information)
