Full Description
A set of barracks, known as East Arrow Barracks were constructed on a terrace between Hudson’s and East Demi Bastions, on the south eastern side of the castle complex, in the 1930’s. The barracks comprised three two storey blocks with pedestrian access from here to the castle via East-Demi Passage. These barracks were demolished after the military occupation of the castle ceased in the 1960’s.
The site of the East Arrow Barracks is now apparent by a rectangular area of flat ground between the East Demi-Bastion and Hudson’s Bastion, to the east of the counterscarp bank (and for once not wholly tree-covered). (1-2) The barrack blocks are clearly visible on the 1957 Ordnance Survey map of Dover. (3)
