Full Description

Archaeological evaluation and excavation carried out in 2016 discovered what was interpreted as a medieval smithy. The remains consisted of a number of north-east to south-west ditches and perpendicular gullies, an area of intense scorching, furnace/oven superstructure and hammerscale (a by-product of smithing) and a well.

The pottery assemblage suggested the site was mostly active from the later 12th to early 13th century (1)
