Full Description
An evaluation and excavation took place behind 95-103 Sturry Road in advance of redevelopment of the site in 2006. Excavation revaled evidence for a possible Roman ditch.
The ditch was on a north-west to south-east alignment, was c. 2.30 m. wide, 0.70 m. deep. It contained two fills of light greyish brown clay silt and the upper fill produced a single fragment of Roman tile.
Sherds of Roman pottery and fragments of brick/tile were recovered as residual material from the fills of features dating to later periods at the site.
