Full Description
Excavation in 2000-2002 carried out as part of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link found evidence of a rectangular enclosure associated with a mid Roman structure (possible portico). The location of the structure and associated enclosure indicates that it formed an integral part of the mid Roman Sanctuary complex. The enclosure was represented by two possible fencelines giving an enclosed area measuring approximately 15 m by 10 m on the western side of the structure. A probable tree-throw hole situated centrally within it suggesting that a tree may have stood here and formed a focus within this area. (1)
