Monument record TQ 67 SW 1616 - Possible site of timber structure associated with mid Roman building, Springhead, Northfleet

Summary

Excavation in 2000-2002 carried out as part of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link found a shallow L shaped slot which was located 5m to the north a rectangular structure c. 4.5m x 6m in size which has been interpreted as a mid Roman building. This slot may represent a beam slot or wall trench defining the south-east corner of a rectangular timber structure. (location accurate to the nearest 1m based on available information)
