Full Description
Excavations in advance of the Channel Tunnel Rail Link in 2002-3 identified a number of Romano-British property boundaries west of the Ebbsfleet. Within property two revealed a large sub rectangular pit which has been interpreted as some form of sunken-featured structure. It measured 6 m by 4 m, and was 0.60 m deep with near-vertical sides, it contained no structural features. An irregular gully appears to have been associated with the pit, perhaps to divert rainwater run-off. The associated pottery suggests that it may have been in use in the second half of the 1st century, with infilling taking place in the late 1st to early 2nd century. (1)
