Full Description

During an archaeological evaluation undertaken at Ebbsfleet in 2005, one of the trenches revealed a extensive series of archaeological remains. These were bounded on their northern side by a ditch which has a possible late Iron Age or Roman date. The ditch was aligned NW-SE and appeared to have been truncated by the quarry situated just to the north of it. the ditch was recorded as surviving to a depth of 0.45m, suggestion a feature of substantial original dimensions. The ditch fill produced iron fragments and oyster shell suggestive of an Iron Age or Roman date, alongside three fragments of redeposited worked flint of a likely earlier prehistoric origin. (1)
