Two north south aligned ditches were encountered in separate trenches during evaluation trenching undertaken at Springhead by Wessex archaeology ahead of development of the area. The first was identified at the southern end of trench 13. The ditch was narrow, measuring just 0.62m wide and 0.14m deep with moderately sloping straight sides and flat base. It bears great similarity to the second ditch identified at the southern end of trench 17. This exhibited the same profile as the first trench and measured 0.62m wide and 0.36m deep. Their alignment and similarity in fill and profile suggests the two ditches are related and likely contemporary, although dating evidence was retrieved from either and so the features remain of uncertain date, the soft nature of the fills was suggestive of a fairly modern construction.
