Full Description
During the geophysical survey which was undertaken on land immediately to the south of Watling Street (A2) at Swanscombe, two large linear features that run through the middle of the dataset were recorded. These were the most substantial features identified at the, the first is approximately 145m long and 8m wide, the second has similar dimensions and runs parallel to the first, both are aligned northeast southwest. These anomalies appear to represent a cut feature, likely to be a ditch. may represent a form of land division, however given their spacing from one another and their consistent alignment, they may be ditches flanking the sides of trackway. Given the archaeological background of the area, it is highly likely that these features identified are of Romano-British origin, however this is only a speculative date. (1)
