Full Description
A small oven was discovered close to the site of a Roman building which fronted the southern side of Watling Street during excavations at Springhead. The oven was constructed of chalk and clay and was probably used for cooking. The presence of the building which has been interpreted as a bakery is located less than 10m to the south of this feature and it is likely that they are associated. The oven may have been used for baking bread, though this is not confirmed. (1)
