Full Description
A tiled altar plinth was found a few feet in front of the steps into temple 2 within the temple complex at springhead. A recessed stone altar base was found just to one side of it, a socket for a spigot being bored in the centre. No trace of the altar has been found. The presence of this alter outside of the temple is unusual for those which have been discovered in Britain or north west Gaul (though an example occurs at Silchester) and is reminiscent of the classical style of temples found in Italy.
