Archaeological evaluation carried out east of Bogshole Lane in 1999 discovered a Bronze Age 'founder's hoard' within an oval pit along with evidence of nearby settlement. The hoard consisted of 27 copper alloy (bronze) fragments mostly dated to c. 850-700 BC due to the high lead content of the assemblage. 11 fragments originated from axe/palstave heads/blades, 2 originated from spear heads, and 2 from weapon shafts. Of the palstave/axe heads/blades, one was winged, and one socketed and winged in form. One double-socketed piece was dated to around 850-700 BC, whilst a spear head of kite-shaped form was thought to date from an earlier period.

Associated with the hoard were 5 pot sherds from a minimum of 3 vessels. The vessels as described as flint-tempered, 2 fine-tempered, and 3 coarse-tempered. Sherds of residual prehistoric pottery were also identified at the site. (1)

Excavation in 2001 following the evaluation recorded prehistoric features and a possible Saxon sunken-floor structure. Report not seen by HER team so no further information. (2)
