Full Description
Archaeological evaluation in 2002 found a clay floor cut by a Roman pit, and possible post-holes/pits dating from the late 2nd-early 4th century. The clay floor deposit contained inclusions of charcoal and small fragments of ceramic building material. This deposit was cut by a large pit with a minimum diameter of 905mm, and a depth of 726mm. Roman pottery was recovered from the fill of the pit dating to the late Roman period.
Also associatd with these features were two circular shallow depressions, one with a diameter of 180mm and a depth of 70mm, and the other measuring 510mm in length, by 410mm in width, and 110mm in depth. These have been interpreted as possible post-holes or pits. (1)
